LONDON KY—The Laurel County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP) has recently provided the London Police Department with needle-resistant gloves. The donation allows for 3 pairs for each officer.
Through a harm reduction/opiate overdose prevention grant, Laurel County ASAP purchased gloves for officers to provide a higher level of protection for officers when conducting searches, said Chief Derek House of the London Police Department.
While on the job, it is a real danger that an officer may be stuck by a needle that could carry not only remnants of a drug but diseases such as Hepatitis C and HIV.
“These gloves are protecting the people that protect us,” House sa id, adding, “We’d like to thank Christie Schrader for her continued support of the London Police Department and our Officers.”
Laurel County ASAP is a valuable community partner to the London Police Department who often collaborates to curb opioid abuse and misuse as well as educate the local community about the dangers of drug use.
