LONDON KY—On Tuesday, Oct. 1st London Police were Dispatched to KY-80 in reference to a male walking along the roadway with no shirt on, making obscene gestures. Through investigation, London Police made contact with Kevin D. Lewis, 34 of Barbourville, Ky. at Red Roof Inn.
Officers approached Lewis and asked him to speak with them. He refused to speak with officers and then pulled out a .38 caliber Derringer pistol from his pants pocket, pointing it at his head while yelling at officers. He continued to walk on Melcon Lane approaching West Hal Rogers Parkway with the firearm in-hand. The Laurel County Sheriff John Root and Deputies arrived on scene to assist.
Lewis then walked behind Arby’s, towards Heritage Road – jumped on the side of a dairy semi-truck with the firearm still pointed towards himself. He then threw the cocked gun onto the roadway causing it to discharge near officers. No one was injured.
Lewis was taken into custody by London Police. He was charged with nine counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, first-degree fleeing and evading police on foot, and resisting arrest. He was also charged with two warrants. He was lodged in the Laurel Co. Detention Center.
