LONDON KY—On Tuesday, Jan. 5th at 10:48 p.m. London Police were notified by 9-1-1 Dispatch of a possible DUI complaint near Great Clips off of KY 192 that led to a foot pursuit, arrest, and the recovery of a stolen vehicle registration plate.
Lt. Matthew Moore responded to the call and as soon as he arrived at the scene he saw a 1994 Dodge Ram pick-up backing out of a parking space. Lt. Moore called Dispatch to run the vehicle’s tag number and it came back as stolen. The truck had since parked nearby at Kroger.
Lt. Moore immediately approached the truck on foot and the driver, Nathaniel P. Hicks, 33, of Corbin took off running. Lt. Moore gave commands to control the situation but Hicks did not yield. Hicks refused to comply and continued to flee towards Lowe’s. Lt. Moore drew on Hicks with his taser and gave commands for Hicks to get on the ground. Hicks refused and Lt. Moore used his taser and took him into custody.
Hicks was charged with theft of a motor vehicle registration plate, fleeing and evading police of the first offense, and was also served with a failure to appear from the Laurel District court for non-payment of fines.
Lt. Moore was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Randy Medlock, Sgt. Richie Reynolds, and Ofc. Justin Hopkins.
